Merten's first performance experiences were in Germany and
Belgium. After three years’ conservatory training in Milwaukee,
including performing The Greeks in Shanghai, China, he came to Chicago in 2000. He has performed in King Lear with Chicago Shakespeare
Theatre, The Three Lives of Lucie Cabrol with Vitalist, and worked as assistant director on John
Bull’s Other Island with Irish Repertory. Currently he is performing on stage and on camera in Germany. His work with sprung incluides seep and the original and 2004 remount productions of Capsize.
